The IEEE EMC Madras chapter is forum for the Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) community in the region.

IEEE EMC Society Madras Chapter organized a one day Technical Seminar titled “Applications of Electromagnetics” jointly with Hindustan University on February 28, 2014. The seminar was aimed in making the young minds, understand the importance, avenues and applications of the Electromagnetics and EMI/EMC in the real world. The seminar was attended by 70 participants, including 8 IEEE members from various engineering colleges in the region.

The event commenced with the inaugural address by Dr. Vanaja Sivakumar, Head, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Hindustan University. This was followed by the welcome address by Dr. M. J. S. Rangachar, Dean, School of Electrical Sciences, Hindustan University. The keynote address was given by Dr. B Subbarao, Head, EMC R&D Division, SAMEER-Centre for Electromagnetics and Chair, IEEE EMC Society Madras Chapter. He spoke about the basics of Electromagnetic Interferences and Electromagnetic Compatibility illustrating types, applications and future scope in the area. Dr. M. J. S. Rangachar delivered the vote of thanks and a memento for Dr. B. Subbarao.

This was followed by a lecture by Dr. K. T. Selvan, Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, SSN College of Engineering, Chennai. He spoke in general about science, basic concepts electromagnetic units and finally how these simple things came to be applied in the field of electromagnetics..

The final speaker for the event was Ms. Sheela M. Krishnaswami, RF Consultant. She spoke on the topics on RF transmissions.

All the lectures were combined with an interactive question session, which saw good participation and enthusiasm from the audience.

Dr. M. J. S. Rangachar delivered the vote of thanks and a memento for Dr. B. Subbarao and Dr. K. T. Selvan. The vote of thanks to Ms. Sheela M. Krishnaswami and the memento was presented by Ms. Punithavathy Mohan. The event concluded with a final vote of thanks by Ms.Shyamala Devi and Dr. M. J. S. Rangachar.
